Normalcy. I never thought that the word would ring such a sweet sound or be treasured and desired by so many. That's a word that so many want in the Houston/Galveston area. A word that, up until now, it wasn't thought of much.
A lot of people went back to school and work this week. Some didn't even have power yet, but they went to work because they needed to earn money. Even now, there are some people without power.
We got power after 4 days, but since then, our power has been cut twice. Sunday, it was out for about 3 1/2 hours. Wednesday, it went out again for about an hour. Even though it was an inconvenience, I think I would rather have the power on MOST of the time than NONE of the time.
On my end of town, stores are open, restaurants are operating, and traffic lights function like they are supposed to. And except for the evidence of storm debris on the side of the road, you wouldn't have guessed that a hurricane hit the area two weeks ago. I know that we are fortunate because there are some parts of the city that was hit hard, and they don't have lights, or water, or even a house.
I am blessed. I have a roof over my head, clean water to drink, and electricity to have an A/C and lights to see in the dark, and a TV to see the news and internet to write this blog. Electricity is everything, and I can see why people are upset why they haven't gotten it yet.
The question to ask when you see someone: Do you have lights? Weird, but that's how people are greeting each other these days. I hope that everyone gets their lights back on soon.
