Wow! It's been awhile since I blogged. I've been a little busy with everything.
We are right in the middle of Girl Scout cookie time. My troop is also trying to get ready for a big campout for mothers and daughters. Not to mention our plans to take a junior troop camping and planning for the end of the year events for the troop. Yeah, I think we're a little busy.
This will be the first time in 10 years that I won't see any trail rides coming into Houston. Where I used to work at, we would watch the trail riders make their way to Memorial Park, where they spent the night, and then participated in the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parade. Only in Texas would you see horses and wagons going down the same streets that cars drive. Only in Texas would you have to wait for the horses to pass before the cops would let you cross the street. And only in Houston does this happen once a year. Everyone is a little more patient because a 30 minute trip down the Katy Freeway now takes an hour because of horses. Only in Houston do Houstonians dress like cowboys once a year. Today is Go Texas day, and everyone dresses like a cowboy on this day, and can get away with it.
So, I was kind of surprised that no one in Sugar Land (where I work at now) dresses for Go Texan day. There wasn't even an acknowledgement of the day in Sugar Land. Do they not celebrate this because it is a Houston tradition?
So, this year I didn't see the horsies, nor did I see western wear. I can't even smell the bar-b-que from Reliant stadium from the cookoff. Bummer. What is this world coming to???
I haven't made any plans to go to the rodeo this year, but it doesn't mean I won't go. Sometimes I'll get a last minute invitation, or a last minute inkling to go, so then I'm scrambling to get tickets that aren't in the nosebleed section. Not to mention fighting for parking, and walking a zillion miles. Otherwise, it's fun! The food is good (and expensive) and the rodeo events are wonderful. I love the calf scramble! I love watching the FFA kids try to get a calf. If they are successful in roping a calf, they get to have a calf to raise for a year, then they bring it back to the rodeo to show. I love that!
If you haven't gotten your rodeo gear, it may be too late. Good luck in finding some!

oh my gosh, Elizabeth! Do you remember the very first time I experienced the Go Texan day? That was HILARIOUS. I couldn't believe I was getting so up close to all these horses, and how they were blocking traffic- I thought it was all so strange! What fun old times!
And if I were there right now, I'd buy girl scout cookies from you...oh my, that would be so yummy right now! Remember when JoeAnn & Larry both bought case fulls, not knowing they each had done that?! ha!
Good times...
Lynette
