Corinne has been very sick this past week, enough that she has missed school. After taking her to the doctor twice, it was decided to keep her out until Monday. However, she wanted to go to the Homecoming Dance, which was tonight. So, I told her that she had to rest up and then she can go, which has been the doctor's advice: plenty of bed rest.
She also had the dilemma of not having a dress. She needed a semi-formal dress. So, she got a bright idea to convert an extremely long velvet dress into a dress. She pulled the elastic waste over her breasts and added ribbons for straps. Then she added another ribbon on the elastic and yet another ribbon further down the dress/skirt to create a tie back for a bow. She used a lot of fusible webbing and a little needle and thread. I must admit, she did a great job on the dress. I told her to tell her friends that it was an original CC.
She also came with me to the car clinic earlier today. She had taken the dress to the car clinic and worked on it. All of the ladies were trying to figure out what she was going to be doing. Jokenly, we said that not only do we do car repairs, we also do dresses. But you can tell Corinne is just like her dad. Corinne does not like to use an iron because when she was little, she got burned bad on her arm. So, in order for her to use the fusible webbing, she brought her hair straightener to get the fusible webbing to stick to the fabric. We also had problems with the elastic not stretching far enough, so she put the dress on, and then used the hair straightener to go around the dress while attaching the ribbon and webbing. She managed to get all of that ribbon and webbing on the elastic and it turned out beautiful. We took some pictures to show that this was a first for the car clinic.
I dropped her off about 7:45 p.m. tonight in her dress. Hopefully, she will have a good time.
