We have had our share of fish exchanges lately. First, Benji, the biggest goldfish we had, tried to eat Dotty. He attempted to do this once before last summer. This time, he actually got Dotty further down his throat, and for three days he chomped on Dotty, then spit him back out. When we finally noticed that Dotty was out of Benji's mouth, he had already died. So, we had a funeral for Dotty.
That left the count in the tank to one algae eater (Strippers), and three goldfish (Goldie, Benji, and Junior).
Then Corinne decided to buy another goldfish: Joanie. We don't know if the goldfish are male or female, so the names are not important to gender. Anyway, poor Stripers was way out numbered having 4 goldfish in the tank now.
Then we noticed that Benji looked like he had Ick. Corinne was going to separate him from the rest of the fish because she didn't want him infecting the whole bunch. When she filled the small tank, she didn't notice that the water was too warm, so when she put him in the tank, he died instantly of shock. Funeral #2. She treated the big tank with Ick stuff to prevent the other fish from getting Ick.
I think it was last weekend, Corinne bought more fish: two more algae eaters. We now have Paul and Tiger. Paul is a long algae eater, while Tiger has stripes and is short and small.
So, now our count is:
Goldfish: 3 (Goldie, Junior, and Joan)
Algae Eaters: 3 (Stripers, Paul, and Tiger)
I am surprised that Goldie and Stripers have stayed with us this long. Goldie has been our oldest fish, with Stripers right behind him.
You would think we were crazy having fish in the same house as two cats, but really, it hasn't been a bother at all. Mary doesn't pay any attention to them, and Samy likes to sit and watch them. And at times, I notice that when I go into the kitchen, the fish go to that side of the tank and watch me do whatever I'm doing in the kitchen. I find it kind of funny.
