Breast Cancer

One of my co-workers had breast cancer surgery Thursday. She is in the middle of a long battle that she's been battling since around October/November (?). It started out as a routine well woman exam. Then they found something, and had her do an ultrasound. The ultrasound proved that indeed that there was a cancerous cell there. So, she was sent to a surgeon at St. Luke's Hospital. She went to see the surgeon and plastic surgeon and she was all set to have surgery at the end of December. However, after doing all of this, she hadn't checked with insurance regarding coverage. She called, and they actually referred her to M.D. Anderson. She called, and the process started all over again. She didn't actually get an appointment to see anyone until the end of January. After seeing someone in January at M.D. Anderson, she was set for appointments in February, with February 19th as the surgery date.

According to her family, she made it through surgery fine, and she was scheduled to get out of the hospital on Friday. Let's hope that they got everything out (they said they did), and that the sample they got proved that she doesn't have to have any chemo or radiation.

Now, she faces two months at home, away from work. Hopefully, she'll get some rest.
