Living near the Gulf coast, you get used to preparing for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. You get your supplies ready (food, water, emergency, hardware, etc). You make a decision on whether or not you will evacuate. You gas up the car just in case you have to evacuate or if the power goes out after the storm. You do everything possible to prepare for the impending storm.
Such as the case with Edouard. We prepared. No one panicked and left town. We went to the store and bought supplies "just in case". We got ready for whatever comes our way.
Since I live in Sugar Land, which is southwest of Houston, I didn't get much storm. Yeah, we had light rain throughout the day, but we didn't get the powerful winds and flooding, like in the east side of town. And since I still had to go to work today, I left this morning and there were hardly any cars on the road. (Most of my neighbors stayed home). I was glad that we got the rain, though. We needed the rain. It wasn't a hard rain, but a steady rain that gave the ground time to soak up the much needed rain. Our area was in a drought, and I'm sure that this rain helped. Yesterday, the temperatures were near 100 degrees. Today, it was in the upper 70's. Tomorrow, it predicted to go to 90, and be very humid (because of the storm). Yeah, I enjoyed today.
Some people were mad that they got prepared and nothing happened. I always say that it's better to prepare and not have anything happen than to not prepare and have everything happen. Living near the Gulf coast, you prepare for everything and hope that nothing happens. And if it doesn't happen this time, you're prepared for the next storm. Remember, hurricane season has only begun.
