Talk around town is about Hurricane Dean. It's about to enter the Gulf of Mexico, and it is already a powerful storm. All of the news says that we must prepare for the possibility of Dean coming our way. Even though it is a long way away, you still don't know which direction it is going to take.
I guess fresh on everyone's mind is the Rita disaster. I've heard horror stories of people spending 10, 12, 15, even 20 hours on the road, and they gotten as far as Huntsville. Personally, it took me 7 1/2 hours to get to Waco on the back roads, when normally it would take 3 1/2 on regular roads. That was really good compared to others. The other family that came to my friends' house took 19 hours to get to Waco, partly because they left later, and partly because they took the main roads.
Anyway, back to Dean. I'm preparing this weekend to bug out if I had to, or stay put. I'm restocking our supplies, and if this hurricane goes south like it's supposed and not hit us, then I'll be prepared for the next storm. No matter how you look at it: We're going to get some rain. If it hits south of here, we will still be on the dirty side of the storm and get lots of rain. If we take a direct hit, then we're going to get more than just rain. I'll decide on whether to evacuate or not when the storm gets closer. Meanwhile, I'm preparing for the worst.
